Howard Nelson Alexander Clara Phillips Howard Alexander In Alexander Grocery, February 1973 Howard Nelson Alexander, born April 13, 1923, in Putnam County, Tennessee.  He owned and operated Alexander's Grocery in Baxter.  He served two terms as Mayor of Baxter.  He died 1 July 1982 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.  He is buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee. He married  Clara Phillips.
