Howard Nelson Alexander Clara Phillips Howard Alexander In Alexander Grocery, February 1973 Howard Nelson Alexander, born April 13, 1923, in Putnam County, Tennessee.  He was the son of Albert C. Alexander and Daisy Ann Maddux. He owned and operated Alexander's Grocery in Baxter.  He served two terms as Mayor of Baxter.  He died 1 July 1982 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.  He is buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee. He married  Clara Phillips, the daughter of Ray Van Phillips and Velma R. Roberts, on 18 April, 1948. She was born on 5 May 1923 in Boma, Tennessee.  She was a real Rosie the Riveter in World War II working on P-47's and B-17's.  She taught Sunday School for over 40 years at her church in Baxter.  She died on May 19, 2012 in Cookeville, Tennessee.  She is buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee.
